Signature mark

Like catch words, sheet signatures are located below the print space. They designate the sheet or the position in the book and thus serve the bookbinder as a guideline for the realization of the correct sequence. This information (consisting of letters and numbers) is usually on the same height as the possibly existing catch word and is almost always positioned in the centre.

However, footnotes may still appear below, so that the line does not always represent the last piece of information on the printed page.
